Social crises are complex and challenging issues that not only affect the stability and dynamism of societies but also reflect the fragility of social, economic, and political structures. These crises manifest in various forms, including civil protests, increasing inequalities, distrust in governmental institutions, the breakdown of social cohesion, and even environmental disasters. Therefore, identifying and understanding the dimensions, components, and indicators of social crises is essential for effective planning and policymaking.
This study aims to analyze social crises by examining their dimensions, components, and indicators using a qualitative approach. The research addresses the question of how understanding the dimensions, components, and indicators of social crises can contribute to preventing societal disorder and social instability. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 10 experts in social sciences, sociologists, and policymakers, using purposive sampling until theoretical saturation was reached (see attached interview table). Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis (following Braun & Clarke, 2006), including open, axial, and selective coding stages.
The findings indicate that social crises can be categorized into three main axes, prioritized as follows: economic problems, political problems, and cultural and social harms.
